Breaking Free from Negative Thoughts

A BETTER APPROACH TO LIFE

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most well-researched approaches in counseling — and for good reason. It works. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Frisco, TX, I use CBT as one of several clinical tools in an eclectic, integrated approach to therapy. The goal is always to use what fits you, not to fit you into a single method

CBT is built on a straightforward premise: the way we think shapes the way we feel, and the way we feel shapes the way we act. When thought patterns become distorted — catastrophizing, self-criticism, all-or-nothing thinking — they drive anxiety, depression, and cycles that are hard to break on your own. CBT gives you practical tools to identify those patterns and interrupt them.

How CBT Works in Practice

In sessions we work to:

• Identify the specific thought patterns driving your anxiety or depression

• Examine the evidence for and against those thoughts

• Replace distorted thinking with more accurate, balanced perspectives

• Build practical coping strategies you can use between sessions

• Track patterns over time to understand what triggers your struggle

CBT is a powerful tool but it isn’t the only one. My approach is eclectic drawing upon attachment theory, grief frameworks, and other evidence-based methods depending on what you’re navigating. For women of faith, these clinical tools are applied through the lens of Biblical truth. The research informs the methodology and scripture informs the meaning. Together they address the whole person, not just the symptoms.

CBT is particularly effective for:

• Anxiety — including high-functioning anxiety in high-achieving women

• Depression — breaking the thought cycles that keep you stuck

• Stress and overwhelm — building practical regulation strategies

• Perfectionism and self-criticism — reshaping the inner dialogue

• Grief — processing loss without getting trapped in unhelpful patterns
